Hawks in the NFL: 2012 Super Bowl

And then there were two.

Tyler Sash and Jeff Tarpinian will represent the Iowa Hawkeyes in Super Bowl XLVIII. Sash, who sees time on special teams will likely be in on punts and kickoffs for the New York Giants. Tarpinian, unfortunately, is on injured reserve and will not be available for the New England Patriots. Fortunately, one of the luxuries of being in the Super Bowl is that regardless of whether or not you play, you still get a ring…if you win.

Many will remember the conclusion of the Ravens v. Patriots game for the missed field goal by Drake graduate Billy Cundiff. And sure, it would be convenient to place the blame on Cundiff who made what can only be described as an atrocious kick. Yet, even if Cundiff made the field goal the Ravens still could've lost. People won't remember Lee Evans dropping a perfectly thrown ball in the endzone which would've sent Baltimore to the Super Bowl. I guess that's why no one wants to be the kicker. You make it, you do your job and life goes on in anonymity. You miss it, everyone knows your name for all the wrong reasons.

Note that Tyler Sash made "highlights" during the game for all the wrong reasons:

Ouch. He was just fine and finished the night with 2 tackles (1 solo). Following the Super Bowl we'll wrap up the 2011 season with final statistics, contract information and name our NFL Hawkeye of the Year.
